The unceasing sound of the falls, the water so nicely hot and the extraordinary landscape in an uncontaminated context.

I’m talking about free falls of Saturnia!

In Italy, in Tuscany, everyone can live a relaxing experience at the border between dream and reality.. an emotion totally free that doesn’t need tickets or reservation, only served by nature.
Saturnia -spa town known all over the world for all its wonderful thermal spring- it’s situated in the heart of Maremma, between Siena and Grosseto.
Its name is linked to an ancient legend. The thermal springs has been created by a thunder thrown by Jupiter against his father Saturn who after beingthrowned out by Olimpus from his own son.
He turned throughout the italian peninsula until it stop in the wonderful and wilderness Maremma.
Most probably Saturnia’s name comes from the Goddes Aurina –divinity who lived this waters- She was venerated by Etruscan, the first inhabitants of this area.

The natural pools are beautiful but have also some benefits. It’s possible to dive, to enjoy the property of the thermal water that flows from a natural source at the temperature of 37° C.
This water isn’t only enjoyable but also hearling for plancton’s thermal presence, namely a real treasure made by minerals, trace elements, nitrogenous substances and vitamin compounds, producing beneficial effects to the skin and to the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and motor system. This minimal habitant of the falls (plancton) it’s easly visible at naked eye and, at first impact is exchanged for extravagant things or, in my case, for a little warm! But, don’t worry, IT’S ONLY HEALTH! The presence of this plancton is in fact sympthom of quality and wealth of mineral salts of the water.

From May to September this place is very crowded. The pools, where you can dive, are several and capacious, but if you want enjoy completely this experience, without worries about people who can climb over you to come in and go out the pool, i suggest you to come program your visit at “Cascatelle” in the periods whit little turnout, or to sacrifice your last hours of sleep to arrive there in the early hours of the light down.When the sun is behind the hills and the hot temperature of the waters is in contrast with the external one, the steam will embrace you softly.But if you arrive late to enjoy this magical place in solitary, the unceasing sound of the water will be so loud to be covered all the items of present people!

USEFUL TIPS:

• Unlike the classic thermal establishment, these free spas aren’t provided with loker rooms, toilet, showers and cabinet where you can put in your personal things; bring with you a bathrobe, a towel and a change of clothes.
• I advise you not to wear a swimwear to wich you are particulary loyal! Thermal water could lighten them and basides for a couples of washes will emanate a bad smell.
• Nearby you will find only one parking area and a bar open all year. To have lunch or to have dinner with a glass of wine not far away, you will find the Saturnia’s ancient village.
